a watchful eye

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile" ~ Albert Einstein

I just finished this one last night. Another gift, so one of my favorite superheroes has always been Superman. The parts of him that I like the most is his attempts at just trying to fit in, that humility but the burden and responsibility of being a protector. I think that is a great trait that humanity has a capacity for. To be humble yet assume greatness and do great things for the sake of others. I admire that quality. This was done on 400 series paper with black charcoal and some white charcoal.

...tiny dancer...

This is of my cousin Tenaya, who is a dancer currently attending UCSB. As a birthday gift I drew this picture of her for my mom who happens to be her godmother. So this was another white charcoal on black canson paper.

This was a pic of it using Hipstomatic.

For a friend

I had drawn this for a friend. I liked the picture a lot and had said I was going to draw it. This was white charcoal on black canson paper. This and the surfer drawing are probably two of my favorites right now. I think its the imagery and action they both convey.

In my spare time

So I've moved to San Diego and without cable and internet (which I have now) I had nothing but time. So like I always say to myself, I needed to work on my art. So this is one of my latest. I like the way this one came out a lot. It is charcoal on basic 400 series paper.

work in progress

This life is a melancholy pill
it tastes of salted tears
of melancholy years
days gone by where no time can heal
an open wound that flows and peels
where outborn cries are swallowed whole
misplaced effort of tireless tolls
where weepy sorrow replaces a weary soul
burdens stack on top ten fold
when lives get lost among the chaos
screaming for help to apathetic ears
waves crash upon rationless fears
hope is clinging for a glimmer
trying to fight the closing dimmer
though faith may be strong
and resolve could be deep
but sometimes your struggling just to stay in beat

Sunday with the family

September 5th brought my cousin Stephanie down from San Francisco to her family here in Los Angeles. What we didn't know was that trip also introduced the newest member to our family as she is with child!!!
